10. Annapurna

It is considered as the most dangerous peak to climb on as more than 40% is the rate of fatality on this mountain.

The lateral meaning of the name of this mountain situated on the north of the central Nepal is �white mountain’. This mountain faces Annapurna being separated by a valley and has several dramatic scenes like Annapurna which are not found on most of the other high mountains. It was considered to be the highest mountain of the world till thirty years back due to its amazing beauty and dramatic scenes.

6. Cho You

This mountain lies between China, Tibet and Nepal, like most of the high peaks in the Himalayan ranges. �Turquoise Goddess’ is the translated meaning of the Tibetan name of this mountain. Earlier people while exploring Himalayan ranges and climbing on Mount Everest used this peak to warm up. Today it is considered as the easiest peak to climb on among the other highest mountains of the world.

5. Makalu

This fifth highest mountain in the world is located on the boarder of China and Nepal just about 14 miles on the east of Mount Everest with 8,462 meter or 27765ft height. This mountain is uniquely shaped as a pyramid standing isolated in the Himalayan ranges with its four sides. Kangchungtse, or Makalu II is another peak associated with this mountain but being less than 8,000 meters in height it can not be included in this list of highest mountains.

4. Lhotse

This one of the highest mountains of the world is also situated on the border area of China and Nepal and at the South Col it is connected to Mount Everest. The 8,516 meter or 27,940 feet height of this mountain has enabled it to be fourth highest peak of the world. The steepest face of about 1.98×1.4 miles in size is one of the features of this mountain alongwith its close proximity with Everest which made it famous among the climbers all over the world.

3. Kanchenjunga

Since 1848 it is known as the third highest mountain of the world with 8,586 meter or 28,169 feet height but earlier it was considered as the highest peak of the world. �The Five Treasures of the Snow’ is the translated meaning of its name as its peaks are supposed to represent gold, silver, gems, grain and holy books, the five treasures of the world. People belonging to Kirant religion consider it as a sacred mountain and for this reason the British exploration team, during its the first expedition to this peak in 1955, due to respect stopped a few feet before the actual peak. This tradition was also followed by most of the teams which have successfully reached this peak in later years.

The second highest mountain of the world is situated in the Karakoram part of the Himalayan range, on the border of Pakistan administered Northern Areas between the Gilgit-Baltistan region and Taxkorgan Tajik, the Chinese Autonomous County of Xinjiang. This mountain is far more dangerous to climb as compared to Everest due to its steep height of 8,611 meters or 28,251 feet. K2 is third in mortality rate among other highest mountains of the world as 25% of the people succeeded in climbing on it so far could not come back alive.

29,029 feet or 8,848 meters height of this mountain makes it the highest of all the mountains of the world. This mountain is the part of Himalayan ranges and is situated on the borders of Nepal, Tibet and China. In Nepal it is known as Sagarmatha or �head of the sky’ whereas in Tibet its name is Chomolungma or �the mother of the universe’. Even being the tallest mountain it is considered to be the easiest mountain to climb for both advanced and amateur climbers. Though the dangers caused by winds, weather changes, altitude sickness and change of temperature can make it difficult to climb on such a high mountain but its topography is much more easier to climb as compared to the other highest mountains in Himalayan ranges like Nanga Parbat or K2.
